Vehra Wasteland

The Vehra Wasteland was once an lush and expansive grassland that borders the Stohrym Tundra, the Jenam Valley, and the Ginryu Sea, along with the Perithian Sea. The northern and south-western areas of the Vehra are covered by mountains.

Over the past twenty years all plant life in the area had mysteriously died, allowing much of the topsoil to blow away over the Perithian. Due to the massive ecological disaster, almost all of the minor villages in the Vehra have been abandoned. Very few settlements still stand, often supplied by shipments from Rune and Hetrea, such as the town of Kulma. Scattered villages can be found along the eastern coast, which make up the [Vehrean City-States]].

For two millennia the Vehra Grasslands was home to one of the largest, most advanced countries on the continent at the time, the Kingdom of Morith. During this time the Vehra was a large, fertile ecosystem supplying many forms of life now extinct. The large, web like roots of the Periminion Grass held down the soil, allowing the entire region to be one, unbroken grassland, with the exception of tree lines for the farmland. Ever since The Wasting the Vehra has remained a large, alien waste land devoid of almost all life.

The Vehra is a large region bordered by mountains on the north and the south of the region. The eastern coast borders the Perithian Ocean. The once relatively flat landscape has recently become home to various large chunks of bedrock jutting up from the dry earth, caused by what experts assume was the sudden reduction of moisture in the area. Jagged rocks push through the ground and deep ravines slice through bedrock all throughout the once beautiful land.

Originally the Vehra shared the same temperate climate of the Jenam Valley. Since the Wasting, the Vehra has an inhabitable region of extreme heats during the day, biting colds during the night, and a constant dry air even near the coast. While there hasn't been enough erosion to create and considerable amount of sand, enough of the soil remains in the form of dust causing constant, large dust storms. Wind speeds can rise up to to 175 miles an hour, typically only during dust storms, although speeds between 10 and 50 miles an hour are far more common.

The Vehra was, at one time, the largest farming area in Estreoth. For centuries the Vehra supplied most of Estreoth with grain and meat, quickly making a name for itself as the life-blood of many surrounding areas. However, with The Wasting, the crops of the Vehra began to fail and within only a couple years there was nothing of note growing. Dozens of settlements across the Vehra vanished in short order as starving farmers migrated within the city walls of Morith, eventually falling to the impeding famine.

With the death of the entire ecosystem, the Periminion Grass which once held the topsoil down turned to dust itself, allowing the topsoil to rise freely in the air with any passing wind. Large fissures tore across the region, splitting bedrock into large ravines, shattering solid stone and sending it skyward. The Vehra today is known as one of the most naturally dangerous, full of unnatural ravines, massive rocks formation, sudden dust storms, and fierce temperatures.
